Final Steps
1. Pre-Operative Appointment/MD Consult:
When you have met the requirements for surgery as outlined by your insurance provider and our program, Bluegrass Bariatrics Surgical Associates will call to schedule your next appointment. Please anticipate the following:
- You will receive education about your surgical procedure, pre-operative and discharge instructions, post-operative diet instructions and follow-up appointments.
- You will be examined by the surgeon. He will discuss the surgical options with you. You will sign his consent form after that meeting.
- You will be scheduled for surgery by the Bluegrass Bariatric Surgical Associates surgery scheduler.
- You will meet with the financial coordinator at Central Baptist Weight Loss Center to discuss your financial obligations for surgery. You may make your payments at this time. We may only accept payment for Central Baptist Hospital, not Central Kentucky Anesthesia or Bluegrass Bariatric Surgical Associates.
- You will meet with the insurance specialist at Bluegrass Bariatric Surgical Associates to discuss your financial obligations with the surgical group. You will be expected to pay the remaining $250 balance on your program fee.
- You will pay a $20 fee for the nutrition consult at Central Baptist Weight Loss Center.
2. Additional Testing and Surgical Procedures:
Often, lung studies and cardiac clearance are necessary before we can take you to surgery. You will also be required to undergo endoscopic examination prior to surgery. If the surgeon determines that you need an additional surgical procedure such as a hernia repair, your insurance will be billed for that medically necessary procedure. You will be expected to pay the additional deductible, out-of-pocket and co-payments due prior to surgery for this procedure AND the bariatric surgical procedure which is an elective procedure.
3. Pre-admission Testing:
All patients are required to go to pre-admission testing at Central Baptist Hospital before surgery. This will be scheduled by the surgery scheduler at Bluegrass. If the surgeon recommends an anesthesia consult, you will meet the anesthesiologist during this appointment. Otherwise, you will meet the anesthesiologist in the pre-op room on the day of surgery. If you are considered “high-risk”, the anesthesiologist will discuss additional monitoring that may be necessary during and after surgery. This may result in additional charges for your anesthesia care.
4. Payment information:
All financial obligations must be met (paid in full) 10 days prior to the date of surgery. Payment can be made between the hours of 8am and 4:30 pm Monday thru Thursday and 8am thru 12:00pm on Friday. Payment must be arranged with Susan Gaines at the Central Baptist Weight Loss Center, 859-263-2022. Payment cannot be made at CBH, or BBSA. We do not accept American Express. We cannot accept a personal check less than 14 business days prior to surgery.
