Recipe Of The Week: Lean French Toast from Lindora

1 Slice whole wheat bread (approximately 80 calories, 15g carb per slice)

1 large egg, or egg substitute to equal one egg

Dash ground cinnamon

1/2 packet of sweetener, or to taste

Drop of artificial maple flavor, or vanilla extract, (optional)

 

Break egg into a shallow pan, wide bowl; beat until the yolk and white are well blended.  Add cinnamon, sweetener, and flavor; and beat into egg until blended.  Place the slice of bread in the bowl and allow to absorb the egg mixture, turning over the bread to completely saturate both sides.  Place the bread in a small, non-stick skillet that has been lightly coated with cooking spray.  Pour any left-over egg mixture over the bread.  Cook bread, turning at least once, until both sides are lightly browned and the egg is cooked.  Serve immediately.  (No syrup needed -- the flavor is cooked in!).

1 serving:  155 calories; 10g Protein; 15g Carbohydrate and 5.5g Fat

CBH WLC tip:  For a more vanilla flavor and extra protein, add a scoop of vanilla whey protein powder to the egg mixture, blend well, then saturate your bread.

CBH WLC tip:  To lower the calorie count even more--use 35 calorie vegetable fiber bread.
