Most of Dr. Matt Shane’s life has been devoted to service of patients in Kentucky. Growing up in Louisville, Dr. Shane would work summers in his local hospital, assisting on the earliest forms of laparoscopic surgery. Inspired to become a surgeon, Dr. Shane eventually graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Mathematics. He attended medical school at the University of Kentucky, graduating with honors. He stayed to pursue a General Surgery residency at UK, earning numerous awards and citations during his tenure, including several teaching awards, and induction into Alpha Omega Alpha. From there, Dr. Shane chose to expand his surgical training even further, traveling to Atlanta, Georgia to complete a 2-year fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at Emory University, one of the oldest and most respected training programs of its type. While there, Dr. Shane was extensively trained in advanced laparoscopic and bariatric techniques, and also published numerous articles on Bariatric surgery, Reflux surgery, and Surgical Education. Once his fellowship was completed, Dr. Shane chose to return to Kentucky, and entered practice in Lexington.
Dr. Shane is a member of many surgical organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, Kentucky Medical Association, Lexington Medical Society, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
