Now that you have had surgery, follow-up is crucial. The scheduled office visits depend upon which type of surgery you have had, the general guidelines are listed below:

Laparascopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass AND Laparascopic Gastric Sleeve Patients:

Your first follow-up appointment is one week after the date of your surgery. We will be testing your blood to check for vitamin deficiencies and overall health. We will examine your surgical incisions and check your vital signs. We will weigh you and talk to you about your recovery process and your diet. Please write down any questions you have after surgery, and bring them to this appointment. Your next appointment will be one month after the date of surgery. This appointment will be very similar to the first post-operative appointment. We will see you again three months, six months and nine months after surgery, and again at one year. We will be checking your labs and overall health at every appointment, and monitoring your weight loss and activity level.

Laparascopic Adjustable Gastric Banding Patients:

Your first follow-up appointment will be one month after the date of surgery. At this appointment, you will receive your first “fill”. We may also check some labs to assess your overall health. We will weigh you and talk to you about your recovery and your diet, and we will examine your incisions and port site. Please write down all questions you have after surgery and bring them with you to this appointment. The physician’s assistant who performs your fill will give you instructions regarding the amount of restriction you should feel following the fill. You will set up an appointment for your next fill before you leave.
