"Dear Mr. Sisson,

I wanted to take the opportunity to let you know about some particularly wonderful folks who took care of me during my recent surgery.

Zack was my nurse in the 3 North ICU when I came out of surgery. He had a terrific sense of humor and was responsive to my care needs.  He made what could have been a painful night after surgery more calming and healing. Leslie and Carmen were there every step of the way as I prepared for a move from ICU to my private room also located on the 3rd floor.  These women were supportive and encouraging of me on my journey to a healthy weight as the fourth Gastric Bypass patient at Central Baptist Hospital.  When I arrived in my room, Melissa became my nurse for both of my days out on the floor. The consistency of her care was vital to my feeling safe.  Her communication with the physicians and other staff was exceptional.  She was helpful and had a sense of humor.  It was great to be able to offer information that she could pass on to other patients who come to Central Baptist as the Center for Weight Loss program grows.  She was open, asking questions in an effort to provide even better care for those who will follow. I had Janet and Gina overnight on Saturday night.  They managed the pain that I experienced like pros.  When we waited for one medication to come from pharmacy, Janet got me something else in the meantime.  I was always greeted with a smile and a hello even from the Respiratory therapists during my 3 a.m. treatment, hence my failure to remember their names.  The Hospitalist physician, again memory fails on his name, was very interested in my care.  He even called me after discharge to give me test results making certain I had the follow-up that I need.  I had two transport technicians for other tests each gentleman had a caring attitude taking their job of transporting me quickly and safely.  They offered great jokes along the way and were kind as I traveled throughout your facility.

I will certainly let all of my family and friends know just how wonderful my care was at Central Baptist Hospital.  As the Center for Weight Loss Program grows, I will be one of its biggest advocates.  You can’t ask for better people than Angie and Sabrina. They have supported me along my path.  I know that I can count on them for my future needs.

Being on the other side of healthcare in my daily life as a risk manager, I had different expectations than that of the general public.  It is my responsibility to make certain my own employer is compliant with all regulatory bodies including the Joint Commission.  It was evident that your staff members take the National Patient Safety Goals seriously and are educated as to their importance.

I have passed on my thanks to the individuals mentioned, but felt it also necessary to make you aware of the outstanding care provided.  I know it is your expectation of every staff member everyday with every patient.  I’m pleased that I chose Central Baptist Hospital for my recent surgical procedure.  I was able to catch many of your staff members doing a wonderful job!!

Sincerely

Amy Wright"

"When you asked me today, how was the whole experience, I did not hesitate to tell you how I felt. In this time when everyone complains or is disgruntled, I am delighted to tell you that I was very pleased about my procedure, and the care I received at Central Baptist FAR exceeded anything I have experienced at all the other Lexington hospitals. There were the “little things” like getting a newspaper with my breakfast tray that made my day! There were the common courtesy things, like knocking on my door and waiting until I said come in, everyone greeting me appropriately and hoping that I was doing well. There were the “big deal’ things: everyone washed their hands before and after they worked with me, everyone introduced themselves, said what they were going to do and then ASKED ME if that met with my approval. I did not feel like a patient, I felt like a real person, and must compliment everyone from the housekeepers, to the dietary aides to the floor staff on their professional, personal attitudes. I was told every medication that I received and was asked if I needed more information about my condition , diet, or medications. No matter how many times I ran the bell in those first two days, I was warmly received and promptly taken care of. Melissa, my primary nurse was a great example of what I am talking about. My previous experiences at UK and St. Joseph were horrible by comparison, and I had given up hope that hospitals could achieve and maintain high standards of professionalism, infection control, privacy and patient rights. Health care consumers have numerous choices as to who provides their care and where they want to be taken care of. Central Baptist has certainly paid attention to this with their employee training and mission. I will be very hard pressed to chose another hospital, as Central Baptist not only met all of my heath care needs, they EXCEEDED my expectations and did so in a wonderful way. Please feel free to share my comments with any appropriate departments. Keep up the great work.

In my earlier note I forgot to mention Dr. John Oldham. He did my surgery and explained everything in detail. When he came to see me at CBH after surgery he never seemed to be in a hurry to leave like a lot of doctors do. He makes you feel as though you are his only patient. His whole staff was the same way. They were fanastic. Harry Rhodus

I had the Lap Band surgery June 13(Friday the 13th) 2008, and I couldn't be more pleased. I've lost a little over 100 lbs. since the surgery and my life has changed dramatically. I feel better and have lots more energy. I used to need a seat belt extension when I travelled by air. Not any more!!!! I can buckle up like everyone else. I can sit in smaller chairs without being squeezed in. These types of things alone can change your mental outlook. Plus the fact that your healthier, and it's great to hear all the compliments about how great you look. The staff at CBH was absolutely fanastic. Debbie and Katy on the 4th floor was almost like having your mother take care of you. They were great. Not that others weren't, I just can't remember their names. I especially remember Debbie because she loves Nascar, and so do I. All the nutrionists and dieticians were there to answer any question you had and even had suggestions about things you might not think about. I've been asked several times if I would do it again, and the answer is ABSOLUTELY. I've been overweight for several years, but, now I look and feel like a normal person. My family physician is happy as well. As I mentioned earlier, my health has vastly improved.......low chlorestol levels, blood pressure. I hope by reading this that you can understand how satisfied I am. By the way, I'm the only guy on the front page.

I had debated weight loss surgery for years. I attended two seminars for doctors in both Louisville and Lexington. After attending a third seminar at Central Baptist Hospital, I felt this was the program for me and I was ready for this life changing experience. On September 9, 2008, I had the gastric band procedure with the Realizeā„¢ band. Drs. Weiss and Oldham were wonderful both before and after surgery, as well as all of the other staff members at the CBH Weight Loss Center. I always felt able to contact them with any questions or help I needed. As of December 2008, I have lost 46 pounds and regained a ton of energy. I am no longer a couch potato and do not view food as a friend, it is now a fuel source for my abudance of energy. I would do this again tomorrow if needed, without any hesitation.
